Brandman University Heritage

History

In what began as an effort to meet the education needs of military personnel, Chapman University established the Residence Education Center Program, which was later named Chapman University College, at the nearby El Toro Marine Air Station in 1958. Thanks to a generous donation by The Brandman Foundation, we’ve become Brandman University, a separate, fully accredited university within the Chapman University System. Steeped in academic tradition, our program continues to provide quality education to a new kind of student: one who demands the same high academic standards as a traditional university but whose life requires greater flexibility and real-world relevance in the curriculum.

In our ongoing drive for greater accessibility and flexibility, Brandman University has expanded to offer online programs as well as a convenient network of 25 campuses throughout California and Washington. We offer over 200 programs in Business, Arts and Sciences, Health, and Education. Brandman is a member of CAEL, the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning, and is one of the largest credentialers in California.

Built on this expertise, and Chapman University's century-and-a-half legacy of academic excellence, Brandman University was established to meet the evolving needs of new generations of working students for the next 150 years.

The high standards that have guided Chapman for nearly 150 years have earned a top-school ranking in U.S. News & World Report: America’s Best Colleges 2010. Chapman also is one of only 100 American colleges and universities recognized by the prestigious Templeton Guide: Colleges That Encourage Character Development.
