Specific Requirements (2012-13 catalog)

Prerequisite:

Prerequisite: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, a California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (or equivalent), a Child Development Associate Credential, or must take or have taken EDUU 321, 325, 330 and EDUU 465 or ECED 300, ECED 301, EDUU 330 and ECED 302.

Core Courses (18 credits):

 

EDUU 600* Research and Evaluation Methods 3 EDUU 605 Democracy, Education and Social Change 3 EDUU 606 Seminar in Learning Theory 3 EDUU 607 Seminar in Comparative Education 3 EDUU 608 Seminar in Social Foundation of Education 3 EDUU 609 Seminar in Curriculum Studies 3

 

*EDUU 600 is a prerequisite for all other core courses and candidates are advised to follow this structure.


Emphasis Courses (12 credits):

 

EDUU 640 Foundations of Leadership in Early Childhood Settings 3 EDUU 641 Public Policy and Fiscal Planning for Early Childhood Leaders 3 EDUU 642 Leadership and Human Resources in Early Childhood Settings 3 EDUU 643 Early Childhood Program Evaluation: Capstone 3

Demonstration of Mastery


Candidates for the Master of Arts in Education degree with an emphasis in Leadership in Early Childhood Education must successfully plan a program evaluation of a local preschool or infant/ toddler program.  Candidates submit their program evaluation plans in EDUU 643 and must earn a B or better in the course.
