<div><b>Page Content:</b> <p><a href="/commencement/Pages/NR-Commencement-Ceremony.aspx">Northern</a> and <a href="/commencement/Pages/SR-Commencement-Ceremony.aspx">Southern</a> Commencement will not require tickets. Open seating is available for families and friends on a first come first serve basis.</p>
<p><strong>Northern Ceremony</strong>: Doors will open to the public at 10:30 a.m.<br />Guest seating is first come, first served in all non-reserved areas. Parties may save seats for late guests until the beginning of the ceremony. Once the ceremony begins, empty seats must be made available to guests who are seeking seats so that everyone may be accommodated. </p>
<p><strong>Southern Ceremony</strong>: The field gates will be open to the public at 8:30 a.m.<br />Guest seating is first come, first served in all non-reserved areas. Reserved seats are those that are inside the white fences or are marked by with signs by the Commencement Staff. Parties may save seats for late guests until the beginning of the ceremony. Once the ceremony begins, empty seats must be made available to guests who are seeking seats so that everyone may be accommodated. Guests are requested to remain seated so that everyone may have an unobstructed view of the proceedings.</p>
<p>Families with guests requiring accessible seating are requested to sit at the sides of the seating areas where there is ample room at the end of a row to provide ease of movement for guests with disabilities. Wheelchairs, other assistive devices or persons are not permitted to block any aisle by order of the Orange Fire Department. A shade canopy for elders or guests with disability is located at the rear of the seating area on Wilson Field. Space is limited – please be courteous and give priority to those guests requiring shelter to maintain their health while they are on Wilson Field.</p>

<p>Southern Ceremony will be held outdoors without shade. It is suggested that guests: </p>

<li>Wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the sun</li>

<p>The <strong>Southern Ceremony</strong> can also be viewed live from your personal computer. The link will be available at Brandman.edu day of the ceremony. </p>

<p>Out of respect for fellow classmates and consideration for their families, graduates are expected to remain seated until the conclusion of the ceremony.</p>

<p><strong>UNDERGRADUATE</strong> student with superior academic achievement throughout his or her undergraduate career may graduate with university honors. To be eligible for honors, the student must have a Brandman grade point average and cumulative grade point average, including all transfer work, at or above the specific honors category. A minimum of 54 credits must be Brandman coursework taken for a letter grade. Categories of honors are cum laude (3.500- 3.699 GPA); magna cum laude (3.700- 3.899 GPA); and summa cum laude (3.900+ GPA).</p>

<ul><li>Commencement attire will not be available to purchase at Memorial Auditorium on the day of the ceremony. Please visit the Cap &amp; Gown Information link on the left for deadline dates to order the appropriate attire. Students without commencement attire will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony; there will be no exceptions allowed.</li>

      <title>The Academic Hood</title>

<div><b>Page Content:</b> <img align="right" src="/PublishingImages/Commencement/hood.bmp" alt="" /> <p>Over many centuries, academic tradition has fashioned a uniform code for apparel that identifies the level of degree, field of study, and college or university attended. Graduate students earn hoods that identify their academic concentration by the color on the velvet collar and a satin lining displaying their school colors.</p>
<p>The hood is to be placed over the gown around the neck and shoulders so that the larger portion with the satin colors hangs down the wearer's back. The velvet border is worn facing out, with the wide velvet positioned as the upper band on the hood (under the chin) and the narrow satin trim positioned as the lower band. Smooth the velvet band and satin trim into place as the hood is draped over the shoulders and down the back.</p>
<p>There is a loop attached to the front of the hood that should be fastened to a shirt, dress, or the zipper of the gown so that the hood is not pressing on the front of the wearer’s neck. Use a safety pin if needed. To expose the satin chevron lining in back, starting at the middle-back level, turn the free edge of velvet border, below the shoulders, with the fingertips out to the sides and under in a small “inside out” maneuver—this will cause the satin lining to roll into view. Secure the cord at the upper back to both buttons found in the lining to keep the hood from spreading apart in back and falling off the shoulders.</p></div>

<h5>GRADUATION WITH LATIN HONORS</h5>
<p>UNDERGRADUATE student with superior academic achievement throughout his or her undergraduate career may graduate with university honors. To be eligible for honors, the student must have a Brandman grade point average and cumulative grade point average, including all transfer work, at or above the specific honors category. A minimum of 54 credits must be Brandman coursework taken for a letter grade.</p>
<p><strong>Please speak with your advisor for eligibility.</strong></p>
<p>In order to receive Latin Honors, undergraduate students must meet the following criteria at the time of degree conferral:</p>
<p><strong>Cum Laude</strong><br />Minimum Chapman University GPA of 3.50, Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.50+, Minimum completion of 54 Chapman University graded credits (not including Pass/No Pass)</p>

<p>Students who have not completed their program requirements, but would like to wear an honors cord at commencement in May 2012 must have a combined University and cumulative GPA of 3.50 , including all transfer work, based on grades earned by the end of Fall Session 2. In addition, they must have a minimum of 42 credits of Chapman/Brandman University coursework, taken for a letter grade.</p>
<p>Being eligible to wear honors cords at commencement does not guarantee that the student will earn Latin honors, which are determined at the time of degree conferral.</p>

<div><b>Page Content:</b> <p>Your academic gown is made of a synthetic fabric blend, so it tends to be warm on a hot day and will not provide warmth on a cold day. Also, the gown is black, and will soak up rays on a sunny day, no matter what the temperature is. Dress comfortably beneath your gown, be mindful of the weather—plan a couple of alternatives in advance to be ready for anything on Commencement Day. Think about what you want to be seen in once you remove the gown, especially if you are going out to celebrate with family and friends.</p>
<p>Your cap comes with elastic in the hat for a flexible fit, so the days of ill-fitting caps are over, thankfully, but it will hug your head nevertheless. Count on it to give you “hat hair” with all but the closest or tightest hairstyles. It is a good idea to try your cap on well in advance to decide how you will wear your hair with it— that way you will feel confident on Commencement Day about the way you look, and your graduation photos will be great!</p>
<p>Footwear should be comfortable enough to tolerate standing for a long time, walking on uneven surfaces, and going up and down stairs. Bare feet are not permitted.</p></div>

<p>There is no rehearsal for Commencement, so it is vital that all students arrive at the designated line-up area on time. It is critical that you thoroughly review all correspondence received via your Brandman e-mail prior to commencement. Students should allow ample time to arrive, park, and walk to the line-up area. Friends and family are not permitted at lineup. Late-arriving students may not be allowed to participate!</p>
<p>Students must bring academic regalia. Security is not provided in line-up locations or at the ceremony venue. Students should avoid bringing valuables such as purses or packs to the procession line-up, as they will be obliged to carry them around for the duration of the ceremony. <strong>We ask students to leave their valuables with their guests.</strong></p>
<h4>BOARDING PASSES</h4>
<p>You will receive a Boarding Pass via Brandman email several days before your commencement ceremony. Please print out your Boarding Pass and bring it to commencement. Do not lose or damage the Boarding Pass. When the time comes for you to proceed across the stage, you will hand your Brandman Pass to the reader who will announce your name.</p>
<h4>LINE UP</h4>
<p>At lineup, students are grouped together by schools and major. Students are required to sit within their school and major cohort. If a student is earning two majors or two degrees, he/she will be assigned to walk with the major or degree/s of his or her choice as indicated via the online RSVP form.</p>
<p><strong>Southern Region Line Up: 8:45 a.m.</strong></p>
<p>We suggest female students consider wearing shoes with low heels. The ceremony will take place on the grassy football field. </p>
<p><strong>Northern Region Line Up: 10:45 a.m.</strong></p>
