Bio

Dr. Smith is a gerontological nurse practitioner that specializes in gerontology primary care and gerontology-psychiatric care. He received his BSN and MSN in Nursing Administration at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Post-Masters GNP Certificate at the University of South Florida, and DNP in Nursing Education at Case Western Reserve University. He is an Associate Professor and Program Director, Post Masters to DNP Program in the Marybelle and S. Paul Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions where he teaches and mentors DNP students. He has a private practice in long-term care and community primary care. Dr. Smith is an advocate for nursing and advanced practice nursing serving on local, state and national boards of directors for several nursing organization. He has published numerous referred articles in nursing journals, and has presented at local, state, national and international conference on variety of topics. His research interests include gerontological nursing issues, pain management in older adults, cognitive impairment/dementia, quality of life/health status, long-term care, psychiatric-mental health nursing practice, as well as, pedagogy and instructional design. He has interest in using technology and innovative pedagogies, best practices in education, the millennium learner, and evidence-based geriatric practices.
