Brandman faculty among those featured at recent Lily Conference

Dr. Len Hightower at the Lily Conference

Several faculty members participated in the recent Lily Conference in Newport Beach focused on evidence-based teaching and learning.

  • Dr. Tim Becker, assistant professor of marketing; Cathy Margolin, associate dean of the School of Business and Professional Studies and assistant professor of accounting; and Dr. Gale Mazur, assistant professor of organizational leadership, presented “Competency-Based Education (CBE) Lessons Learned.” They discussed flexibility, learning alternatives, faculty models and the benefits to students at the Friday morning roundtable session.
  • Dr. Helen Eckmann, assistant professor in the School of Business and Professional Studies, and Laura Galloway, assistant professor of organizational leadership and a Ph.D. candidate, discussed “Improving Student Learning Through Faculty Peer Review.” They described how a peer review program was developed at Brandman University using a cross-discipline approach.
  • Dr. Len Hightower, assistant professor in the School of Education, and Dr. Tamerin Capellino, assistant professor in the School of Education, presented a poster called “Developing a Framework for Assessment of an Ed.D. Program in Organizational Leadership.” The poster looked at the conceptual and scholarly foundation for experiential learning and offered next steps in implementing a more comprehensive assessment.
  • Dr. Jalin Brooks Johnson and Dr. Sheila Steinberg led a roundtable discussion and held a poster session. See related story. Dr. Brandi Mills contributed to the presentations.

The Lily Conference series participants come from across the United States and represent faculty and administrators at various stages in their academic careers, ranging from post-doctoral positions, adjunct faculty, new faculty, mid-career faculty, seasoned faculty, and even emeritus faculty.
