Brandman University Fairfield to Host Free Suicide Prevention Workshop
While rates have slowed over the past few years, suicide is still the tenth leading cause of death in the United States for all ages (outpacing homicide), according to the Center for Disease Control, and the second leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds. Tracee Stacy, a certified Applied Suicide Intervention Trainer, will be the expert facilitator at a special workshop at the Brandman University Fairfield campus on Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. – Noon (4820 Business Center Drive, Fairfield). Also assisting will be Mara Leon from the Solano County Behavioral Health Division, who will discuss prevention resources available within the county.
The workshop, timed to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Week, will utilize the safeTALK training method to teach attendees how to identify people at risk of suicide, at all age levels, and connect them with intervention resources with easy-to-follow steps that are used around the world.
Brandman faculty members from the psychology and family therapy programs will also assist in facilitating the event, which qualifies for continuing education units (CEU’s). Continuing Education Credits (3 contact hours) provided by the Area Agency on Aging, Serving Napa and Solano. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing #CEP14795 and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences #3871.
