Innovative Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program is focused on transformational change

IRVINE, Calif. (September 1, 2012) – Brandman University today welcomed 180 members of its Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Class of 2015. The new group of post graduate students attended an intensive virtual boot camp in August, and will meet face-to-face for the first time today at the program’s inaugural 3-day immersion at the Irvine Marriott.

Special guest lecturer, Linda Ackerman Anderson, co-author of the seminal books on conscious change leadership, Beyond Change Management: How to Achieve Breakthrough Results through Conscious Change Leadership and The Change Leader’s Roadmap: How to Navigate Your Organization’s Transformation, will discuss Keys to Leading Successful Change. In her three decades as coach to senior change leaders, her extensive client list includes the Canadian Government, Intel, Shell, Lockheed Martin, The Nature Conservancy, DTE Energy, US West, Hewlett-Packard, Pacific Gas and Electric, Kaiser Permanente, the U.S. Army and Navy, and Honeywell.

The new doctoral program is an innovative, interdisciplinary degree designed to develop visionary leaders in the fields of education, business, government, non-profit and many other industries. Brandman’s Ed.D. program is unique in higher education in that it was designed specifically to serve the needs of working professionals. In 8-week hybrid sessions students are exposed to the best of both online and face to face learning. Students engage in three weekend immersion sessions per year on the Irvine campus, with monthly cohort meetings at one of 12 participating campuses around the state. They then engage in online work both independently and in webinars with their professors. The focus of this program, which has attracted such a large student base, is Transformational Change and Leadership.

A team of highly skilled, creative faculty from the University’s Schools of Education and Business and Professional Studies, along with leading practitioners in the field, will guide students through a field-based Transformational Change Project (TCP). The TCP mirrors the collaboration, innovation, positive influence and strategic thinking needed in today’s workplace environment.
According to Dr. Christine Zeppos, Dean of Education, “I’m very excited to welcome such an exceptional first class. We had conservatively targeted just 40 new students, but the response was overwhelming. Today, 180 highly-qualified, extraordinary doctoral candidates will begin the next phase of their education. They are natural leaders who were attracted to our program for its innovative, transformational change component.”

“We believe this is a groundbreaking program,” said Gary Brahm, Chancellor of Brandman University. “It revolutionizes the way students are prepared for the complex job of leading organizations in chaotic times to achieve breakthrough results. With the introduction of a transformational change project, our students will receive relevant experience in what works and what doesn’t. With this real-world education, our students will be prepared to help lead their organizations.”

Brandman University graduated its first doctoral class of nurse practitioners (DNP) in May 2012. Formerly known as Chapman University College, the Ed.D. program is the second doctoral program in the school’s fifty-four year history. The next class will be admitted in Fall 2013.
