The first day of classes also marks the “birth” of Brandman University

IRVINE, Calif. (August 18, 2009) − Brandman University, a separate, fully accredited University within the Chapman University System focusing on working students, welcomed students to their first day of classes at its new Irvine campus and administrative headquarters. The day also marks the University’s first official day as Brandman University.

“This is a historic day for the Chapman University System as we hold our first day of classes as Brandman University at the new Irvine campus,” said Gary Brahm, Chancellor of Brandman University. “Brandman University’s vision is to create a new standard for adult education that builds on Chapman University’s 150 year heritage of academic excellence. Brandman is committed to offering students a quality education of real-world value and distinction both online and on the ground.”

In addition to the new campus location, Brandman University’s Irvine campus introduced three new degree programs including a Master of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and a Bachelor of Science in Computing Technology. Both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Administration will be offered starting in January 2010. Many of these degrees are also available at other Brandman University campuses, as well as online.

Brandman University currently serves more than 500 students at its Irvine campus offering 12 bachelor’s degrees, seven master’s degree programs, two teacher credential programs and seven graduate certificates, as well as several extended education courses.

The new campus is already gearing up for an exciting fall. On October 8th, it will present an Update on the Economic Forecast by Dr. Esmael Adibi, PhD. Later in the fall, it will also be the location for a proposed debate between California’s leading Republican Gubernatorial candidates – Tom Campbell and Steve Poizner. During the debate the candidates will offer their solutions to California’s fiscal crisis and answer questions developed by the moderators and submitted by California citizens via Twitter and email prior to the event.

In April, Chapman University College announced it would be changing its name to Brandman University in recognition of the impact the $10 million donation from The Brandman Foundation will have on expanding educational opportunities for working students. The donation was one of the largest given to a non-profit, adult education institution in the United States.
