Community college counselors visit Santa Maria campus
The Santa Maria campus of Brandman University hosted a breakfast meeting on Sept. 29 for the Allan Hancock Community College (AHC) counselors. Campus Director Patricia Graham said her staff shared fast facts, scholarship information, catalog updates, transfer guides, becoming a teacher information and information about the Ed.D. program. The meeting started with a video clip from 2016 commencement, at which Monica Careyette, a student from the Santa Maria campus, was the undergraduate speaker. Many of the Allan Hancock counselors knew Careyette as well and expressed appreciation for learning how her story continued.
“We had a great turnout and they asked some great questions,” said Graham. “AHC is a long-standing partner with us, and this is the first time we invited them to the campus. Usually, we just present for about 15 minutes at their counselor meetings, so we were so pleased when they decided that they would visit our campus and spend some additional time with us.”
Of the 108 California community colleges, AHC is the No. 1 feeder for community colleges to Brandman University, according to Brandman’s institutional research office.
