Doctoral student selected as principal of Santa Monica school
Jezelle Fullwood, a doctoral student in education at the Antelope Valley campus, is the new principal at Grant Elementary School in Santa Monica. Her appointment was featured recently in a story the Santa Monica Mirror.
Fullwood is a member of the “alpha” class of Ed.D. students and is in the process of defending the proposal for her dissertation on “Common Leadership Characteristics of Principals of Successful Turnaround Schools.” She has spent the past 10 years in the Palmdale School District, most recently as director of curriculum and instruction.
“I am very excited to join the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and the Grant Elementary team!” Fullwood said. “Successfully meeting the needs of a dynamic and diverse student population is what drew me to the district and specifically Grant. As a student, I attended schools in the area of Pacific Palisades and graduated from Pepperdine University. So, after being in the desert for 10 years, I feel like I’m coming home,” she told the Mirror.
