In a landmark moment for Brandman University, the first group of graduates from the Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership program celebrated completion of their Ed.D. at a special hooding ceremony in Irvine.
Voice over: It is a monumental day for Brandman University! The inaugural group of students from the Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership program are celebrating the milestone of graduation with a special hooding ceremony in Irvine.
Dr. Keith Larick, faculty: “It is the most personal part of the whole ceremony. For them being on the field at the big graduation, it is personal to the candidates and to their families. An opportunity for them to say much they appreciate their support. ”
Dr. Daniel Llorens: “It was strenuous. It was rigorous. But, with the help of some really, really good people, cohort mentors and others, faculty, and then fellow students. We got through it together.”
VO: What made you decide to pursue a doctorate program?
Dr. Scott Conrad: “Well, I attended a mentoring program with ACCA and a number of the presidents, my goal is to become a community college president, advised getting a Ed.D. in the Brandman program with the transformational change process really appealed to me when I looked at different programs.”
Dr. Emily Rodriguez: “It was one of those goals of mine as a child. I was raised in a large family. Actually, a large migrant family of 9 brothers and sisters. So, I was actually the first in my family, I’m the fifth child and you know I was the first to not only graduate from high school, but also actually receive a college education. So, this was just something I wanted to, it was a personal goal of mine, to achieve and as I graduated with my master’s and I decided, “Why not a doctorate? I hope next to maybe become a principal. I’m an assistant principal now. Become a principal and eventually my goal is to become an assistant superintendent and eventually a superintendent.”
Dr. Felicia Haecker: “This will be you one day. And to Spider-man who I think is sleeping I hope to see you up here. To my husband who is in the first year of his doctoral journey thank you for all that you guys have done for me.”
Dr. Rowlanda Cawthon: “It’s been utterly transformational. I’ve transformed as a person. I’ve transformed as a professional. I went into an organization and did organizational consulting work, which I had never done before.”
Debbie Kennedy: “I am godly proud of her as her mother and as the woman she has become. She’s very astute and intuitive. I call her my trailblazer. She’s made history for our family and I amso grateful. I’m in tears. I was in awe to see what God has done through her. I always knew she was going to be special and God just proved it today.”
VO: From all of us at Brandman University, congratulations to the Ed.D. graduates from the Class of 2015!
