Game night becomes College Night in the High Desert
GeBren Blakely, manager for Corporate and Community Relations at the Victorville campus, and other representatives from Brandman joined in the High Desert Higher Education Consortium’s University Friends and Family Night at Heritage Field, home of the High Desert Mavericks minor league baseball team, on June 27.
More than 1,000 students from the four universities in the consortium attended the game which Blakely helped coordinate with Azusa Pacific University, Park University and the University of La Verne. One Stop specialist and Brandman student Alexis Williams joined representatives from the other schools in taking a turn throwing out the first pitch. Students also sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” for the seventh-inning stretch.
Among those attending from the Brandman staff were Ontario Director Patrick Pierson and Academic Advisor Sarah Ellison and her family.
The mission of the High Desert Higher Education Consortium is to promote a higher education culture with the goal of helping individuals reach their career goals, supporting economic development and productivity in the High Desert and supporting educators.
They share information in order to decrease duplication of effort and leverage resources of partners in the community, link businesses and elected officials with a well-educated workforce and share information on higher education with adult learners and high school students.
The High Desert Mavericks are an affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers and play in the California League.
