Brandman University associate professor appointed by City Council to serve two-year term

IRVINE, Calif. (September 11, 2014) — Brandman University Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, Karin J. Storm, has been appointed to the Huntington Beach Personnel Commission. Her two-year appointment was approved by the Huntington Beach City Council by a 7-0 vote on Sept. 2. Dr. Storm begins her term immediately.

“I am honored to have been appointed by the Huntington Beach City Council,” said Storm. “As a former law enforcement officer, I will be able to utilize my investigative skills to ensure that disciplinary actions are applied fairly to all city workers. This is an example of how Brandman’s faculty can remain current in their discipline and active in the community.”

The Huntington Beach Personnel Commission consists of five members and provides the following functions and duties to the city: make any investigation upon request of the City Council, concerning the administration of the personnel system and report its findings to the City Council and City Manager; hear appeals on grievance matters; hear appeals from decisions of the City Manager or his/her designee made pursuant to the employer-employee relations resolution; determine hearing procedures and select hearing officers and advisory arbitrators for hearings; review impasse matters as provided in the employer-employee relations resolution; and perform such other functions as may be prescribed by ordinance or resolution.

Dr. Storm has been teaching criminal justice courses at Brandman University’s Irvine Campus since January 2014.
