As part of Brandman University’s Wellness initiatives, members of the university’s Marketing Communications team spent Thursday morning working at Second Harvest Food Bank in Irvine, California.
Organized by Jennifer Cota-Robles, the group boxed up food donated during countywide food drives. Victoria Lim, director of Communications; Shannon Feightner, alumni manager; Cindy O’Dell, communications manager; Lindsay Racen, director of New Initiative Development; and Cota-Robles, marketing product manager and copywriter, sorted and packed up 8,500 pounds of food.
Second Harvest Food Bank distributes the boxes to agencies and food pantries throughout Orange County via a network of 180 nonprofits and programs. Food from Second Harvest provided 22 million meals last year and provides “nourishment and hope” to 315,000 hungry people throughout the county. The annual 24,500 hours of volunteer work provides the equivalent of 40 percent of the work at the food bank.
Brandman University’s Wellness Committee encourages volunteering. On Friday, July 21, they’ll sponsor a blood drive at the Irvine campus through the American Red Cross.
