What’s on your desk? Michael Hain
Michael Hain joined Brandman University mid-March and quickly realized he found a new home for his gigantic “Star Wars” collection. Hain, a senior graphic designer, started procuring his bobbleheads, posters, tins and mugs when he was 5 years old.
Hain’s desk is in Marketing on the third floor of Irvine’s central office. His large cubical could resemble the Millennium Falcon and is co-piloted by junior production artist, Heather Switaj. “It’s great having space to share my collection and collaborate with the creative team,” said Hain.
Hain displays close to 30 figurines and bobbleheads in his workspace. He says that while he loves them all, he does have a favorite. “I have a limited-edition Han Solo on a tauntaun from “Empire Strikes Back” Funko Pop that is probably one of my more prized pieces.”
Hain says he’s been a fan of the “Star Wars” films since he was a child. “My dad took me to see ‘Return of the Jedi,’ and I instantly fell in love with the universe. I remember battling with my lightsaber and flying around my X-Wing in aisles of a, thankfully, very empty theater.” Hain’s favorite character? Han Solo, hands-down. “I’ve always enjoyed his swagger and sarcasm and found his character arc of going from a two-bit smuggler to one of the key figures of the rebellion great.”
Hain says he’s waiting on the edge of his seat for the new Han Solo film that’s being released later this month. But until then he is enjoying his new job and desk. “Every day I get to be artistic and creative. It is hard to consider something work when you get to do what you love daily.”
