What’s on your desk? Audrey Batte
One Stop specialist, Audrey Batte, has sat at five desks during her nearly five years at Brandman University. Her current desk is in her office at the Ontario campus.
Batte, who meets face-to-face with students, decorates her workspace with what she calls “the ultimate icebreakers,” her 25 turtles. An entire bookshelf is dedicated to a collection that has grown throughout the years with gifts from friends and mentors. She proudly displays a turtle from Dean Worthington, among others from around the world including Thailand, Honduras and Korea. Batte says “Turtles are hard on the exterior but soft on the interior, just like me.” She loves sharing her fondness for the reptiles with her students and their families. She even places a turtle rattle and stress ball at children’s level so they have something fun to keep them occupied while she discusses financial aid with Brandman students.
Batte’s office is decorated with photos of her friends’ children whom she warmly refers to as “her kiddos.” She says discussing the topic of money can be stressful so she tries to create an inviting environment for the students she guides through the financial aid process.
