2017 Year in Review: School of Arts and Sciences
Master of Social Work: This new master’s degree program expands on the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work accredited in 2016 by the Council on Social Work Education. Brandman graduates from that and other CSWE-accredited undergraduate programs will be able to move into the master’s program without repeating core concepts. Admissions are being accepted for Fall 2018.
Online M.A. Psychology: Another program that has worked its way through the approval process – no small task – is the online version of the M.A. in Psychology. Brandman offers four emphasis areas: counseling; professional clinical counseling; marriage and family therapy; and marriage and family therapy combined with professional clinical counseling. Previously offered at campuses throughout California and Washington, depending on emphasis, all programs will now be available in online-only format beginning in Fall 2018. Admission is now being accepted.
B.A. Communications and Media: The undergraduate program in communications and media continued to add additional course options throughout 2017 and grow enrollment after admitting students in Fall 2016.
B.A. Integrated Social Sciences: Major revisions and a new name for Brandman’s social science degree came in 2017. The program, which focuses on the connection between people, places, communities and physical environment, uses technologically-based analytical tools such as GIS and is the first to introduce students to Esri mapping and analytic tools.
B.A. in Legal Studies, paralegal concentration: A new concentration joined existing options for students in Brandman’s legal studies program. This one delves into law practice management and other ways of supporting law firms with legal research, drafting formal documents and organizing materials for court presentations.
B.A. in Psychology, community psychology concentration: The newest concentration for undergraduate psychology majors addresses cultural, environmental, economic, social and political factors that influence and shape lives.
B.A. in Applied Studies concentrations: Three new areas of emphasis joined the list of options for students majoring in applied studies. They are applied communications, applied humanities and leadership concentrations.
