Brandman University Outreach Manager to Present at Council of College and Military Educators Symposium

Making informed education choices topic for military educators

LACEY, Wash. (February 13, 2014) - Kelly Hudson, Military and Veterans Outreach Program Manager for Brandman University in Washington State, is one of the presenters at the upcoming symposium for the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME). Hudson will be showcasing ‘College 101,’ a compilation of best practices for military educators to help service members be better consumers when choosing a university. “I want to explain the need behind the presentation to other military educators,” said Hudson. “Right now, some service members who take classes can’t go on to obtain their degrees when they switch to accredited institutions that don’t accept those college credits. We want to make it clear to service members what they need to do to choose a university that allows them to go on to obtain their Bachelors or Masters Degrees.”

This year’s CCME symposium is being held in Savannah from February 10 -13, 2014. The theme is Crossroads in Military Education to help military educators deal with three major forces: uncertainty, budgetary constraints, and increasing regulation. There will be more than 60 distinct sessions to help educators learn about the changing landscape.

Hudson partnered with educators from other universities to create the one hour presentation. “We want to help our military service members be informed consumers of education,” said Hudson. “Every student has different dreams, and we want to make sure they are getting the information they need to make the right choices for their unique situation.”

Hudson has already presented the information at Joint Base Lewis McChord for soldiers and their family members about what to look for when choosing a university. She plans to make future presentations at the base libraries, as well as for all JBLM units upon her return from the CCME symposium.  For more information about Brandman University campuses in Washington State, or to schedule an interview with Kelly Hudson, please contact Margo Myers at 206-604-4535 or margo@margomyers.com.
