Irvine, Calif. (November 13, 2013) —Brandman University employees made the most of having to spend Veterans Day at work and their charitable giving will assist veteran service members in their pursuit of a college education. Employees donated baked goods and raised $3,000.00 for The Bryan A. Fazio Scholarship Fund on Nov. 11 at the Brandman University Irvine campus (16355 Laguna Canyon Road).
Navy veteran Bryan Fazio is a recent Brandman graduate, who when given a terminal diagnosis of Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma that required two bone marrow transplants, elected to accelerate completion of his MBA. The Orange County resident made national news when he received his MBA this past summer. Brandman officials were so touched by his story of perseverance that they decided to establish a scholarship in Fazio’s honor and award it each fall to a veteran student at Brandman who has a medical condition or disability.
Employees and students purchased $498.05 of baked goods and donated another $950.00 for a total of $1,448.05. The University matched those contributions and added further money running the grand total raised to $3,000.00. Along with $5,000.00 previously committed to the Bryan A. Fazio Scholarship Fund, there is now a total of $8,000.00 for future donation.
“We are very proud of our staff and students that they decided to give back on a very special day,” said Gray Brahm, chancellor of Brandman University. “This shows Brandman’s commitment to community service and its military student population.”
