Nursing Faculty - Vanessa Kalis

   Vanessa Kalis

“Nurses and nurse practitioners develop unique and important relationships with their patients and students. It is these provider-patient and teacher-student relationships that I find the most rewarding.”

Vanessa Kalis, DNP(c), RN, ACNP-BC

Director, Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program

Education:
MSN, UCLA

As Director of the Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program, Vanessa looks forward to witnessing Brandman graduates excel as nurse practitioners and leaders. She believes Brandman’s doctoral students will help lead nursing into the future and be able to adapt in the ever changing environment of healthcare.

A significant part of her view of nursing is education. She is involved with education for patients and their families, for providers in the hospital, and for students in educational institutions. It is this strong focus on education that has led Vanessa to teach in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. She is committed to educating students and guiding them to become knowledgeable, skilled professionals.

Vanessa began her nursing career in Minneapolis but later returned to California to work as a critical care nurse at Loma Linda University Medical Center and the UCLA Medical Center.

Later, she chose to pursue a Master’s degree in Nursing with a specialization in acute care, completing a dual-degree program at UCLA with hopes of becoming an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. After graduating, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner with a cardiologist/cardiac electrophysiologist where she gained experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
