As the Director of the FPMHNP program, McCoy looks forward to developing in students the ability to use new and emerging technologies to optimize healthcare delivery of services to consumers of Psychiatric & Mental Health services. She believes there is no better time to become a nurse, update one’s skills or engage in the education and role modeling to nursing students.
For her achievements, McCoy received the prestigious Tennessee Chapter American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Advanced Leadership Award and became the APNA Janssen Scholar in 2006. While on the University of Tennessee, College of Nursing faculty, she helped to redesign the on-line distance courses crossing PMH, acute care and family practice and moving these toward a philosophy of integrative care and the role of the DNP in health care. She is the author of several peer reviewed publications as well as trade publications.
Kathleen currently practices in her home town at Cookeville Regional Medical Center as an integrative Nurse Practitioner in Employee Health and its Wellness Program. Here she manages a broad spectrum of patients and serves at the Coordinator of a unique Regional Nicotine Cessation Program. Here she blends the skills essential to meeting needs of nicotine cessation patients using her PMHNP and FNP certifications. The Nicotine Cessation Program serves employees, their family members, City of Cookeville employees and community members. She chairs the ANCC Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification examination and serves on the ANCC Nominations Committee. She is also an active APNA and ISPN member.
