Nursing Faculty - Joan Newby

   Joan Newby
"Taking care of the smallest, most vulnerable patients from birth to discharge home to their parents is incredibly rewarding. Teaching others to provide care to sick neonates and their families just heightens those rewards."

Joan Newby, DNP, NNP-BC

Director, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program

Education:
NNP-BC, University of Arizona
DNP, Arizona State University

Dr. Newby looks forward to building the Doctor of Nursing Program and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Subspecialty Track into a leader in the field of interdisciplinary, innovative advanced practice nursing education. Using a team approach to develop and transform an educational program focused on meeting the needs of students creates a learning environment in which students have the opportunity to become expert clinicians and leaders of advanced nursing practice. Neonatal care has been her passion for decades and participation in nursing education has given Dr. Newby the ability to share her passion with others.

Newby began her nursing career in 1974. In addition to practicing clinically to provide care for neonates across the spectrum of illness and recovery, Dr. Newby has been actively involved in sustaining the NNP role throughout her career by participating in the education of others and teaching in both the didactic and clinical portions of the NNP programs in her area.
