Brandman University announced today that Daniele C. Struppa, Ph.D., has been named to the University’s Board of Regents. Dr. Struppa joined Chapman University in Orange, California as Provost in 2006 and then Chancellor in 2007, where he is responsible for the academic experience, including the coordination of the curriculum, faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, as well as academic assessment and institutional research. Brandman University is a non-profit, accredited institution that is fully independent from Chapman, and the first member of the Chapman University System.
"I have been involved with Brandman since before its separation from Chapman, when it was still known as University College, and I am enthusiastic about the kind of innovation and quality it brings to the world of adult education. I have the greatest regard and admiration for Chancellor Gary Brahm, and I very much look forward to serving as a Regent of this great institution," said Chancellor Struppa.
Struppa has already assumed his role on the Board of Regents, bringing substantial experience in academics, higher education leadership, and research. Formerly, Dr. Struppa has taught mathematics at the University of Milano, the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, the University of Calabria and George Mason University, where he also served as Chairman of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Simultaneously, Dr. Struppa continues his scholarly research. Some of his recent work at Chapman has been focused on Fourier analysis and its applications to a variety of problems including the algebraic analysis of systems of differential equations, signal processing and pattern recognition. He has applied these ideas and methods to problems ranging from denoising to bio-contaminant detection to proteomics of cancerous cells. Additionally, Dr. Struppa has authored more than 150 referenced publications, edited several volumes, and has edited or co-authored six books.
“We are very fortunate to have such a distinguished member of the international academic community serving on our Board of Regents,” said Chancellor Gary Brahm of Brandman University. “This appointment strengthens the Chapman-Brandman bond that goes back more than 50 years.” Brahm continues, “Daniele has a keen understanding of the role of academics in traditional and non-traditional environments, and how innovation is changing the playing field in higher education. His expertise will be very valuable as Brandman further establishes its position as the recognized leader in in the evolution of adult learning.”
