Ameritas College is Awarded a $250,000 Education Grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation & Educause

Irvine, CA (October 17, 2012) – Ameritas College Educational Services, LLC has received a $250,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Educause, through The Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) initiative, for its innovative mission to provide Hispanic students the opportunity to earn Associate and Bachelor’s degrees through dual language academic instruction.

Ameritas College Educational Services, LLC is a new joint venture of Brandman University (part of the Chapman University System) and University Ventures Fund.  The joint venture enabled Brandman University to establish Ameritas College, Brandman’s fifth college.  Ameritas College offers affordable, high-quality bachelor of arts degree programs  delivered simultaneously with English language instruction for Hispanic working adults
for whom cost and language proficiency are major barriers to a college degree.

According to Sara Martinez-Tucker, former Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education and former CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Ameritas College is on track to help Hispanic working adults break the cycle of under-education and gain the preparation to effectively compete in a multicultural workforce.

“We are making a college degree accessible through a combination of a dual language platform and an outstanding team of leaders experienced in serving the unique needs of Hispanic students. Whether it is a working adult looking to advance his career or an employer looking to develop and strengthen its workforce, Ameritas College brings a much needed educational option to our rapidly growing Hispanic community,” said Martinez-Tucker, Ameritas College Educational Services, LLC Board Chair.
