Post Doctoral Certificate, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Attaining a post doctoral certificate can expand a nurse's professional practice, increase job opportunities, and meet the requirements to become nationally certified in a selected specialty area. The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Post Doctoral Certificate explores subjects such as acute care management, palliative care, and chronic problems in adult aging.

A Brandman Doctoral Certificate is designed for nurse practitioners who have a PhD or DNP and wish to add a specialty in one of our six nurse practitioner specialty areas. In addition to Adult-Gerontology Acute Care the school also offers the following post doctoral certificates:

Students in the Certificate program are required to attend 3 immersion sessions, one before the start of your clinical courses to learn procedures and one at the end of the program.

Students enrolled in a certificate program only are not eligible for financial aid.  Courses taken after completion of a degree program in order to complete the certificate are not eligible for financial aid.

Admission Requirements

  1. Complete a Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions application available online at www.brandman.edu/nursing.
  2. Official transcripts from a Ph.D or DNP degree from a regionally accredited Institution.
  3. Current and detailed resume or curriculum vita.
  4. Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State where you plan to do your precepted clinical practicum hours.
  5. Unencumbered Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in your current specialty. (this is not needed for the CNS adding the nurse practitioner specialty).
  6. Self-evaluation and goal statement.
  7. Three recommendations.
  8. Personal interview as needed.

CertifiedBackground.com (required by the end of the first session):

  1. Proof of a negative TB Skin Test.
  2. Proof of completion of Hepatitis A and B immunization or titer.
  3. Proof of two doses of MMR or titer.
  4. Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria (Tdap) immunization within the past 5 years.
  5. Proof of Chicken Pox (Varicella) immunization or titer.
  6. Background Clearance.
  7. Copy of current CPR “Level C” Certification (Health Care Provider) that will not be expiring in the next 12 months.
  8. Proof of current negative drug screen.
  9. Proof of annual Influenza Immunization.
  10. Additional laboratory tests, immunizations, and/or documentation may be required for clinical courses by certain health care agencies.
  11. Professional Liability Insurance (1mil/3mil).
