TECU 0001: Intro to Photovoltaics I

Intro to Photovoltaics I is a two-week (20 hour) course offered to individuals wanting to enter into the Solar Energy field. This training is designed to teach the learning objectives as outlined by the Electronics Technician Association (ETA) Entry Level Solar Installer Certification competencies, and prepares the student for the ETA Entry Level Solar Installer Certification Exam. Included in these requirements is hand-on lab training where each student must complete specific tasks related to Solar PV Installation. This course is 20 hours and equivalent to 2.0 CEUs.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify major components of a photovoltaic system
  • Identify types of PV systems
  • Identify panel types and characteristics
  • Determine proper installation sequence for array and BOS
  • Install basic array and BOS components
  • Determine proper array Orientation
  • Understand basic performance characteristics
  • Understand basic systems sizing methods
  • Troubleshoot basic systems problems and installation errors

Building on the skills provided by Intro to Photovoltaics I, Intro to Photovoltaics II not only delivers essential information needed to pass the ETA Entry Level Solar Installer Certification Exam, it also gives you a solid technical foundation to ensure that you can succeed on the job. We’ve added our own real-world, hand-on labs designed by expert instructor to give you experience with practical scenarios. This course is 20 hours and equivalent to 2.0 CEUs.

Course Objectives:

  • Inverter features, specifications and de-rate factors
  • Commissioning, operation and maintenance of a PV system
  • Electrical hazards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Introduction to Safety (OSHA)
