Student Privacy Rights

Brandman University adheres to the guidelines established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) - a federal legislation established to regulate access and maintenance of student records.

FERPA affords students certain rights with respect to their education records, including the right to:

  • Inspect their education records
  • Request an amendment of the records that the student believes are inaccurate
  • Control disclosure of their records except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure with consent
  • File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Brandman University to comply with FERPA requirements

Parents, spouses and significant others have no inherent right to access student educational records.
