Biography

Dr. Williamitis is a board certified Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care, Family, and Family Psychiatric Mental Health. She has experience in critical care, cardiac surgery, critical care transport, geriatrics, psychiatric mental health and adolescent and adult eating disorders. She is a veteran of the US Air Force and was a flight nurse. She received her ADN in nursing from Kettering College of Medical Arts, her BSN from Columbia Union College, MSN from the University of Cincinnati, in critical care and as an Acute Care NP and a post Master’s certificate as a Family NP from the University of Louisville. She also earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Psychiatric Mental Health from the University of Tennessee. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Williamitis is an Assistant Professor in the Psychiatric Mental Health Program in the Marybelle and S. Paul Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions teaching BSN- DNP students as well as Masters to DNP students and post Doctoral students. She also mentors DNP students. In addition to teaching, Dr. Williamitis continues to work as a PMHNP in an inpatient and residential eating disorders program and prn in cardiothoracic surgery as an Acute Care NP. Her research interests include the use of cognitive behavior therapy in patients who have undergone left ventricular assist device implantation, neuropsychiatric evaluation before and after cardiac surgery, stroke risk in open chest valve surgery, predictors of stroke in cardiac surgery, and the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Eating Disorders.
