Biography
Dr. Hawani Negussie joins the School of Education as an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education located at the Irvine Campus. Prior to joining Brandman, she was an adjunct lecturer at El Camino College and co-instructor at California State University Long Beach. Dr. Negussie continues her scholarship through presentation on topics related to Infant Mental Health, Child Development and Early Childhood Care and Education at both state and national conferences. She has held various leadership positions including Vice Chair for Training and Research Foundation, and as Chair for the Network of Early Childhood Leaders at CSULB. This past year, she was selected to be a reviewer for the Association for Childhood Education International as they set out to launch a new preprimary global assessment guidelines. Dr. Negussie has worked in a variety of roles and settings including typical group care environments, pediatric hospital, non-profit organizations and corporate sponsored programs to name a few. She values these experiences as they have informed her practice and sharpened her understanding of the importance of a holistic approach to children’s education. Her research interests include understanding children’s development from a socio-cultural perspective, quality teacher preparation and using inspiration as a model for leadership in ECE.
