Federal approval paves the way for unprecedented new competency-based education program for working adults, coming this January

Brandman University announced today that the nonprofit institution has been notified by the U. S. Department of Education that it has been approved to award financial aid to competency-based students using direct assessment. Brandman is just the fourth institution in the nation to earn this type of approval.

Attendees will have access to employers with immediate openings

Brandman University invites those looking for employment opportunities to its Walnut Creek Campus (2950 Buskirk Avenue) for a free regional job fair on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Employers with immediate openings will be on hand to review resumes and conduct on-site interviews. The following employers will have hiring managers on site: Arbonne, BevMo, Contra Costa Community College District, Contra Costa Office of Education, Oakland Unified School District, Spectrum and UNCLE Credit Union.

Please wear professional attire, bring copies of teaching credentials and/or resumes and come prepared to be interviewed. This event is free and no RSVP is required.

Representatives from ten San Diego County school districts will be on hand to meet future teaching candidates

Time to brush up that resume and get ready to be hired! On Saturday, Oct. 18, Brandman University will host a free education job fair at the San Diego County Office of Education (6401 Linda Vista Road) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following school districts will have human resource representatives on hand to review resumes and conduct interviews: Escondido Union, Fallbrook Union, Grossmont Union, La Mesa Spring Valley Schools, Poway Unified, Ramona Unified, San Diego Unified, SDCOE Juvenile Court and Community Schools, Sweetwater Unified and Vista Unified.

California’s need for qualified teachers will only grow over the next decade as Baby Boomers hit retirement age. According to the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning/WestED, one in five current teachers will be eligible for retirement in the next five years. One in three will be eligible in the next 10 years. Between 11,000-13,000 teachers retire each year in California and K-5 enrollment is expected to increase by 100,000 students by 2019.
