This degree program prepares students to teach all subjects in elementary school classrooms using an integrated approach which combines undergraduate and graduate coursework along with field experience. 

Liberal Studies with a Credential Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with the Integrated California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential is a unique program combining undergraduate and graduate level coursework with field experience. It prepares you to teach all subjects in a K-12 classroom, to students including English Language Learners. This credential is only available to California residents. The program aligns with CCTC Teacher Performance Expectations, Common Core and other state standards.

As a student, you will:

  • Develop and utilize classroom management strategies to support student learning and encourage positive social interaction.
  • Create learning experiences that make subject matter accessible and comprehensible to students.
  • Assess the need for differentiated instruction based on the needs of the students
  • Complete Student Teaching, the California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA), and the state Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA)

    Admission Requirements

    Applicants for this program must complete the formal application process with all required documents, which include:

    • Completed application
    • GPA: 2.75 in all prior college-level coursework 
    • Proof of a passing score on the CBEST or any CTC approved basic skills tests

    Letter of Good Standing

    Applicants transferring from another institution's credential program must supply a letter from that institution's Education Department attesting to the applicant's good standing in the program. The letter should be written on institutional letterhead by the Dean, department chair, director of teacher education, or someone in a similar position

    Graduate Level Exams

    Students must have completed 12 or more transferable baccalaureate level credits or the equivalent for admission to Brandman University. The 12 credits may consist of all or any combination of the following credit types: transfer work, dual credit, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, approved PLA (Prior Learning Assessment), CLEP (College Level Examination Program), and DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) scores.

    Program Curriculum

    • Bachelor degrees require students to complete a minimum of 120 semester units which include a combination of General Education requirements and program specific requirements. In the absence of sufficient transfer credit, students may need to take additional general electives to satisfy the 120 total units for the degree which a Brandman Academic Advisor will help you evaluate.
