This online certificate was developed to meet the educational requirements to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), recognized both nationally and internationally.

Applied Behavior Analyst (ABA) Program Overview

The Applied Behavior Analyst (ABA) Graduate Certificate prepares behavior analysts to help people achieve personal goals, reduce suffering and improve their quality of life. Upon completion, graduates may work for hospitals, schools, health agencies, consulting agencies and have their own private practices. Students are required to be admitted to either the Master’s in Special Education or the Graduate Certificate program prior to registering for classes. Applicants must be employed at least part-time in a field related to Applied Behavior Analysis.

As a student, you will:

  • Learn the extensive vocabulary of applied behavior analysis.
  • Gain the use of experimental research designs and how to use the data to make changes in behavior.
  • Understand how to use positive and negative reinforcement, positive and negative punishment, schedules of reinforcement, motivating operations, stimulus control, imitation, shaping and chaining and verbal behavior.
  • Evaluate the various ABA methodologies for instruction and intervention, the design and implementation of a Functional Behavior Assessment, and analyzing measurement tools for particular behaviors.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants for this program must complete the formal application process with all required documents, which include:

  • Completed application
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • GPA: Meet 1 of these 4 GPA options for admission
  • Resume showing current employment in a field which uses Applied Behavior Analysis (i.e., education, medicine, social work, occupational or speech therapy)
  • Official transcripts from all regionally accredited institutions where baccalaureate and/or post-baccalaureate coursework was completed or attempted

Only credits from regionally accredited institutions may be accepted in transfer. Failure to report any previous academic work at another college or university may be considered a violation of academic integrity.

Letters of recommendation
  • Cannot be older than two years from the date of application
  • Must be on official letterhead
  • Must be written by individuals familiar with the candidate in an academic setting with knowledge of the candidate’s ability to successfully complete graduate courses
  • Must address the candidate’s fit for the program

    Program Details

    • Courses must be taken sequentially.
    • Students must receive a grade of B- or higher to progress to subsequent course and maintain and overall 3.0 GPA.

    • Students seeking a certificate program only are not eligible for financial aid. Courses taken after completion of a degree program in order to complete the certificate are not eligible for financial aid.
