Teaching the 21st Century Learner Certificate

This certificate is designed for current educators who want to gain the knowledge and skills needed to serve as effective instructors for K-12 environments, in both online and blended settings.

Program Overview

The Teaching the 21st Century Learner Certificate is a four-course, fully online program focusing on students meeting and actively employing the iNACOL National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. The specialized instruction helps teachers to engage students using new tools and teaching methods. Admission is not required for those completing the certificate. As a student you will:

  • Learn how to review, examine, and experiment with online and blended teaching models.
  • Master best practices for effective blended and online pedagogy/andragogy through research on learning theories and higher-level cognition.

  • Understand the interactive tools for engaging students and building community as a component of examining the use of social media to promote transferable learning of academic content.
  • Develop ways to evaluate and create effective online assessments and design learner-centered, project-based assignments and assessments that meet academic/professional standards.
  • Examine relevant laws and regulations along with evaluating tools and strategies to assure ADA accessibility for all students.

    Total Credits   12

    *EDUU 624 Foundations of 21st Century Teaching must be taken first. Courses must be taken sequentially.

    Students must receive a grade of B- of higher to progress to subsequent course and maintain an overall 3.0 GPA.  

    A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who complete the program and University admission is not required. Students may also complete the courses as part of the Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology, Teaching the 21st Century Learner.
