Teaching Credential, Preliminary, Mild/Moderate

Prepares candidates to teach students with disabilities in grades K-12, and adults up to age 22. The program combines coursework with field experiences, providing you with vital real-world experience for special-education teaching.

Program Overview

The Preliminary Education Specialist - Mild/Moderate Credential with an English Learner Authorization prepares candidates with the appropriate strategies for assessment, instruction and collaboration to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for this program must complete the formal application process with all required documents, which include:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of Intent
  • Three recommendation forms
  • GPA: Meet 1 of these 4 GPA options for admission
  • Official transcripts showing a conferred Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Proof of a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) or any CTC approved basic skills tests
California Residency

This program is only available to California residents

Letter of Good Standing

Applicants transferring from another institution's credential program must supply a letter from that institution's Education Department attesting to the applicant's good standing in the program. The letter should be written on institutional letterhead by the Dean, department chair, director of teacher education, or someone in a similar position

Graduate Level Exams

Candidates interested in the following credentials: Education Specialist, and single or multiple subject teaching credentials, must prove subject matter competency by providing evidence that they have registered for, have taken or have passed the appropriate subject matter examination (CSET) prior to admission to the program
