Master Sargent Carlos Damian received the Brandman University Military Leadership Award

Brandman University is announcing the 2014 winner of its Military Academic Achievement Award, recognizing a student who’s also a military service member for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and in the military. This year’s award winner selected by Brandman University is Master Sergeant Carlos Damian, of the U.S. Air Force, currently stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst near Trenton, New Jersey. 

Brandman University Becomes Fourth School Approved by U.S. Department of Education to Award Financial Aid Through Direct Assessment Program

Brandman University announced today that the nonprofit institution has been notified by the U. S. Department of Education that it has been approved to award financial aid to competency-based students using direct assessment. Brandman is just the fourth institution in the nation to earn this type of approval.

Walnut Creek Campus to Host Free Regional Job Fair on October 18

Brandman University invites those looking for employment opportunities to its Walnut Creek Campus (2950 Buskirk Avenue) for a free regional job fair on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Employers with immediate openings will be on hand to review resumes and conduct on-site interviews. The following employers will have hiring managers on site: Arbonne, BevMo, Contra Costa Community College District, Contra Costa Office of Education, Oakland Unified School District, Spectrum and UNCLE Credit Union.

Brandman University to Host Education Job Fair October 18 at San Diego County Office of Education

Time to brush up that resume and get ready to be hired! On Saturday, Oct. 18, Brandman University will host a free education job fair at the San Diego County Office of Education (6401 Linda Vista Road) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following school districts will have human resource representatives on hand to review resumes and conduct interviews: Escondido Union, Fallbrook Union, Grossmont Union, La Mesa Spring Valley Schools, Poway Unified, Ramona Unified, San Diego Unified, SDCOE Juvenile Court and Community Schools, Sweetwater Unified and Vista Unified.

California’s need for qualified teachers will only grow over the next decade as Baby Boomers hit retirement age. According to the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning/WestED, one in five current teachers will be eligible for retirement in the next five years. One in three will be eligible in the next 10 years. Between 11,000-13,000 teachers retire each year in California and K-5 enrollment is expected to increase by 100,000 students by 2019.

Brandman University School of Extended Education Announces New Social Recruitment Certification Program

Brandman University’s School of Extended Education, one of five schools within Brandman University, well-recognized for its rich history of supporting adult learners, today announced its new Social Media Recruitment certificate program. In partnership with The Sourcing Institute, Brandman now offers ten professional online course modules that teach participants how to use social media to attract top talent and build professional brand credibility.

Social media recruiting is becoming an essential skill in business today. According to the 2013 Jobvite Social Recruiting Survey, 78 percent of recruiters have successfully hired through a social network, up from 58 percent in 2010. Getting the right information and professional training can provide an edge on the competition.

“In an increasingly digital business world, professional social networking is invaluable,” says Vicki Brannock, senior director at the School of Extended Education. “Providing recruitment professionals with the guidance and skills necessary to not only discover the best candidates, but also to attract the top talent to their organization is crucial to growing an organization comprised of the best and brightest.”

The certificate program gives participants tools to connect to hidden talent pools of both active and passive candidates, promote the company brand through effective use of email and mobile messaging, and measure return on investment through sourcing and recruiting metrics.

Brandman University Alumni Association to Host All-Class Reunion October 25 in Irvine

The Brandman University-Chapman University System Alumni Association is hosting an All-Class Reunion. Alumni who attended Brandman University or Chapman University College, as it was known before a 2008 rebranding, are invited to attend. “With our alumni base dating back to 1958, we believe this event will provide a wonderful opportunity for our alumni to reconnect and share their experiences,” said Janine McDonald, Alumni Association president. “There will be great opportunities for networking and staying connected with Brandman-Chapman alumni community.”

At Brandman University, the mission to provide a dynamic education that creates a lasting value for graduates is at the heart of a major announcement from the nonprofit institution today: tuition will not be going up. For the third consecutive year, tuition for all bachelor’s and master’s degree courses will remain at the same levels for the 2014-15 academic year as they were for 2012-13. The freeze also applies to continuing students in the doctor of education program; tuition will remain fixed provided students continue to advance within their original cohort.

Bryan Fazio Scholarship Winners Announced

In honor of graduate Bryan Fazio, Brandman University has awarded four $1,000.00 scholarships, and eleven $250.00 scholarships, in Bryan’s name, to military veterans who have a medical condition or disability and currently attend the University. The $1,000.00 recipients of the inaugural Bryan Fazio Scholarship are: Jamie Kincaid, Irvine Campus; Erik Dye, Ontario Campus; Darcy Bockman-Wright, JBLM Campus; and Nick Arman, Ontario Campus. The four winners were chosen after each applicant submitted a 500-1000 word essay detailing where they see themselves in five years and how their Brandman education will help them achieve their goals.
