Commencement

Happy Father’s Day to Brandman dads

June 16, 2017 by Cindy O'Dell

Proud fathers were everywhere at all Brandman’s commencements. For Father’s Day, here are a few we caught up with a few during our ceremonies.

Robert Hubbard with his cousin Damion Coran; wife, Melissa; daughter Savanna and son Malyk.

There were dads in commencement robes like Robert Hubbard. He’s a new Master of Arts in Psychology with a family therapy emphasis (MFT) graduate. His wife Melissa, daughter Savanna, age 2, and son Malyk, age 15, as well as his cousin Damion Coran were all on hand to see him graduate at the Visalia Convention Center. “He worked really hard,” said Malyk, who added that the example his father set makes him want to go to college as well.

There were also fathers beaming with pride like Richard Neill who was on hand to see his daughter Cyndy Swift both graduate and give one of the commencement addresses in Visalia. Also at the ceremony were her son Nathan and grandson Aiden, who found it remarkable “how many years she’s been doing homework.”

Dan Haecker’s daughter Haydyn once referred to him as “doctor No. 2” when assigning a seat. That’s because her mother, Felicia Haecker, earned her doctorate from Brandman the year before. But during the Northern Commencement, Dan Haecker was the center of his family’s attention as they placed the doctoral hood around his neck before the ceremony. His fellow graduates were just as proud. They gave him a standing ovation when he made his way across the stage.

Arman Nazari, 9, – in Sacramento to watch his father, Sayed Nazari, graduate with an M.A. in Organizational Leadership – spoke for his 5-year-old brother Imran and 7-month-old sister Ada when he said, “I think he did a really great job.” It’s a sentiment shared by many kids about their fathers.

At the Northern Commencement, Gilbert Luna said his efforts to complete his B.A. in Organizational Leadership meant a lot of hard work and sacrifice on the part of his wife, Deanna, and daughter Bella. “It’s worth it, in the long run, to be able to take care of my family.”

Happy Father’s Day to all Brandman dads and congratulations grads!
