Brandman think pieces gaining extra attention

December 15, 2016 by Cindy O'Dell

A pair of articles, one written by Vick Brannock, director of the School of Extended Education, and the other by faculty member Lata Murti, are gaining additional attention this month.

Both pieces were published earlier in the year but are included in end-of-the-year highlights.

Brannock’s “The Hidden Benefits of Corporate Training Programs” was first published in May and highlights the value of corporate training created by universities, such as the ones offered by the School of Extended Education. The article will be republished on Dec. 27 for the 2016 Year in Review and is considered one of the best articles of the year.

Murti’s article, “America’s Biggest Secret or Life in a Culture of Pay Secrecy?” is the lead article on the American Sociological Association website. It was originally published in the ASA Section on Economy, Work, and Inequality, August 2016.

Murti was also the author of a piece for the Journal of Colorism Studies in October. It is an essay on her experience participating in a radio show on women of color breaking barriers, “Tailoring Our Own Business Suits: What I Learned about Women of Color in the Workplace.” Her concluding point was “Remember that individual success and community success are not mutually exclusive. … I think that when a woman of color succeeds, the whole community succeeds. And I think we need to recognize that, and support one another in that.”
