Brandman partners with Rowland Unified for district-wide professional development

It’s back to school time for university-school district partnerships.

Nicole Schneider and Leticia Rojas, full-time faculty members in Brandman’s School of Education partnered with the Rowland Unified School District (RUSD) in the San Gabriel Valley to develop and implement the district’s goal of training all 750 of their teachers on the inquiry lesson design model.  The all-day professional development, on Aug. 10 focused on literacy strategies, supporting English language learners and integrating technology into the classroom.

Brandman faculty worked with the district’s leadership teams to plan the district-wide professional development, which was the first of its kind. Schneider and Rojas were co-facilitators for several of the sessions.  “I felt like the all-day PD was a success.  We worked with the district very closely to make sure the training aligned with their long-term goals and I think it paid off. Teachers seemed to be very appreciative of the time to apply the concepts learned to their planning and the opportunities to share their best practices with one another,” said Rojas.

This event is part of a larger ongoing community partnership with RUSD and Brandman focused on providing professional development for district staff focused on literacy and English Language Learners.
