Ferber’s ‘Angel Scholarship’ helps future college students
Dr. Deb Ferber of Brandman University presented her annual “Angel Scholarship”, which is Dr. Ferber’s personal scholarship created to help women and students of color. This year, Dr. Ferber has chosen to donate her “Angel Scholarship” funds to A Better Chance.
Dr. Deb Ferber, assistant professor in the School of Business and Professional Studies, presented her “Angel Scholarship” to longtime A Better Chance volunteer, Maria Colmenares. Dr. Ferber’s donation will be used by A Better Chance to further its mission, which is to increase substantially the number of well-educated young people of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society.
Dr. Ferber made the presentation on Feb. 18 to Colmenares, who Ferber said has become skilled at finding students in Santa Ana as early as the eighth grade who exhibit the learning and leadership qualities needed to make them competitive applicants for a college education. Ferber works with A Better Change as part of her commitment to community outreach through Brandman University. She also encourages fellow faculty members, students and alumni to become involved with A Better Chance through volunteering or by contributing to scholarships.
