JBLM One Stop specialists connect with fellow students
JBLM One Stop advisors Padao Wheeler and Sarah Crisolo are the first people you meet when you walk into either the Fort Lewis or McChord campus. They help students register and navigate the challenges of earning a degree while in the military. Their secret for being able to help student? They’re both students at Brandman. They know firsthand what it takes to earn a degree and love helping their fellow classmates achieve their goal. To learn more about the support services available at every Brandman campus, see the guide on Brandman.edu.
Padao Wheeler is the One Stop specialist at Brandman’s Fort Lewis campus in Washington state. She’s the first person you’ll meet if you’re thinking about going back to school.
Padao: So I answer any of the questions that they have regarding admissions or military or financial aid, I am the first point of contact as soon as they walk through the door.
At Brandman’s McChord campus at JBLM you’ll meet her counterpart, Sarah Crisolo.
Sarah: You know we really make it a priority to get to know the students as individuals to know their names to know their history to know what’s going on in their lives.
That’s important when many Brandman students at JBLM are in the military.
Sarah: I do think it’s more difficult for adult learners, especially military learners to go back to school. They have to leave on short notice a lot of students are deployed, they come in and out, sometimes they’re in the field with no Internet connection, sometimes they start a class and then a week in find out that they have to leave, so it’s definitely a lot more challenging for them.
In addition to being One Stop specialists, both Sarah and Padao are Brandman students, earning their master’s degrees in organizational leadership. They know what it’s like to be back in school.
Padao: Like hey Padao, what’s going on? Help me with this, what did you do for homework? Did you get in your discussion posting on time? So it’s really cool that way to just kind of get the opportunity to go back to school and also have the relationship to build with the students as well.
The best part of their jobs? Graduation!
Padao: Seeing them at the end when they finally walk across the stage on graduation, that makes me feel so proud and happy that they finally did it.
