Faculty share: ‘What do you wish you had done differently as a student?’
We asked Brandman faculty members what they wished they had done differently as a student in the first of a short series of videos from Brandman faculty members exploring questions about their education and challenges they face in the classroom. Featured in this video are Brandman faculty members from the School of Business and Professional Studies and the School of Arts and Sciences: David Gonzalez, Deb Ferber, Helen Eckmann, Kathy Bates, Melissa Meyer, Sharon Floyd, Sibyl Beaulieu, and Tim Perez.
What advice would you give to yourself or others looking back on your education? Let us know in the comments!
What do you wish you had done differently as a student?
David Gonzalez: I wish I would have been more strategic, had a plan and kept the goal in mind.
Deb Ferber: Gosh I wish I could have had a triple major instead of a double major.
Helen Eckmann: I didn’t start college until I was 35 so maybe I wish I would have started a little earlier.
Kathy Bates: I didn’t have a good work-life balance, I wish I had had more of a work-life balance
Melissa Meyer: The biggest thing that I did was procrastinate, and I regret doing that, its kind of funny to me because you have to do the same amount of work anyway.
Sharon Floyd: I wish that I would have waited until I was a little bit older instead of starting out right out of high school as a seventeen year old because I wasn’t mature enough and ready to go into school yet.
Sibyl Beaulieu: Engage with my teachers a little bit more, a lot of times I had questions or comments or concerns that I didn’t address to the professor and I wish I had taken the time to just get to know them more.
Tim Perez: Going back it would be nice to mix things up, make sure you have some of your general ed and some of your major requirements so you don’t get bored of just one topic and you can keep that continuity going.
