The news over the Thanksgiving weekend about a Santa Ana, California, girl whose specialized wheelchair was stolen has a Brandman University connection.

Joyce Brandman, a member of the board of regents for the university and the driving force behind the donation that Brandman University its distinct mission and name as part of the Chapman University System, was the “angel” behind a $10,000 donation to buy Milagros Perez, 4, a new wheelchair. Although the original chair was eventually returned, Brandman insisted that the family keep the $10,000 donation to help pay for the child’s medical care.
