Hero of the Day – Nov. 14
Military service: I served in the United States Navy for almost 8 years. I worked as a legalman in civilian terms… a paralegal for the JAG attorney’s. I am taking all my classes online.
What does Veterans Day mean to you? Veterans Day is a day to remember and honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country and our freedom. From the solider that lost his life to the single parent who missed their kid’s first birthday. Even the littlest sacrifice is just as important as the next. It is amazing what we can do when we are faced with adversity. I served boots on ground in Baghdad, Iraq, and during this time I remember missing my daughters 13th birthday, I spent Thanksgiving in Kuwait after three days camping in the desert with convoy training, and Christmas in a building right across from hundreds of detainees, but I also remember the friendships I built, how it felt good to know that I was making a difference, and that everything we did was for reason and that our job had purpose. I wouldn’t take back my time there. Yes, there are things I could have gone my whole life without seeing, but there are people I have met and things that have been accomplished that also came along with the hardships. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and I am lucky that I have come this far, but there are those veterans that aren’t so lucky and that is why I also chose Brandman University’s social work program.
