School of Education earns NCATE standing

November 12, 2015 by Guest Contributor

NCATE-ImageProgram design, trust, collaboration, a willingness to work across program areas and the ability to adjust quickly to changes in both technology and standards have put Brandman University ahead of the curve in preparing educators, and earned important stamps of approval from both the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation system. Following a site visit by accreditation teams in April of this year, both CTC and NCATE teams unanimously recommended accreditation for Bradman and praised leadership in the School of Education for meeting all 152 program standards – a rare accomplishment.

While Brandman has been CTC accredited for a number of years, this marks the first national professional accreditation under NCATE standards. In California, CTC accreditation is required for teacher preparation programs which are typically evaluated every seven years; national professional accreditation is voluntary and represents the highest standards of excellence. The report recommending accreditation said that Brandman University educator preparation programs “model the best practices at an extraordinary level.”
