Irvine campus hosting ‘The Raising of America’ screening, discussion
A coalition of Orange County organizations serving children and families will host a community conversation from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Brandman University’s Irvine campus. Brandman faculty member Dr. Faith Polk is on the steering committee organizing the event.
Participants will see excerpts of the documentary series “The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation,” hear from a panel of local experts and discuss related issues in breakout sessions. They can also use #RaisingOC on Twitter and Facebook to further share their views.
The entire series, which looks at early child health and development, will air at a later date on PBS SoCal. The series will explore a number of questions including “What does science tell us about the enduring importance of early life experiences on the brain and body? What it is like to be a parent today? What policies and structures help or hinder the raising of healthy, happy and compassionate children?”
