U.S. Navy Veteran Tom Burton proudly received his Master of Arts in marriage and family therapy (M.F.T.) at Brandman University Northern commencement in Sacramento, nearly two years after an accident left him badly injured. Tom was only two weeks away from finishing his degree and worked with instructors to complete the M.F.T. program after the accident.
Accident delays student’s dream; faculty member steps up

Everyone here has a story, but for one graduate and his family, today means everything.
U.S. Navy veteran Tom Burton is graduating with a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy (M.F.T.).
He was just two weeks away from completing his M.F.T. at the Roseville campus when an early morning bicycle accident left him severely injured. Today, after nearly two years in recovery and a lot of perseverance, the entire audience gave him a standing ovation as he received his degree.

Dr. Frank Weber: It was such a tragedy when the accident happened right at the end of his program. And I’m just grateful that he’s able to come here and have this experience.
