Professors head to fifth grade to mentor students
Dr. Raymond Hurst, Dr. Faith Polk and Dr. Carlos Guzman, all faculty members in the School of Education, joined Dean Christine Zeppos as mentors for fifth-graders at Carl Hankey Elementary School in Mission Viejo. They’ve been helping the students prepare their International Baccalaureate (IB) projects.
The students are researching and creating presentations on various topics for the community. In addition to Brandman faculty, other members of the community are also mentoring students at Hankey, said Hurst, who worked with students on concussions in sports.
Hankey is a Brandman Lab School. The partnership helped them become an International Baccalaureate World School and designation as a California Gold Ribbon School, said Zeppos.
