GISCoverModifiedScientific data that’s spatially analyzed produces highly useful information for academics, scientists, and other researchers, helping them answer questions and make well-informed decisions.

Dr. Sheila Lakshmi Steinberg, professor social sciences at Brandman, and her husband Steven Steinberg  have co-authored a new book GIS Research Methods: Incorporating Spatial Perspectives, published by Esri, that shows how spatial analysis using geographic information system (GIS) technology enhances research in the social and physical sciences.

The book debuted today as the No. 1 new release in Remote Sensing and GIS categories on Amazon’s website.

“A unique aspect of this book is that we focus specifically on how to integrate GIS into both qualitative and quantitative research,” the Steinbergs wrote in the book’s foreword. “Our objective in writing this book is to provide a foundation for GIS research methods and, more specifically, to integrate spatial thinking and spatial analysis into a research tool with clear methodological techniques.
