What’s on your desk? Brad Bourdon
If you’re a hockey fan and Brad Bourdon is, this is the best time of the year — as long as your team (in Bourdon’s case, the Anaheim Ducks) are in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Bourdon really knows his hockey. He played while growing up in the Northwest and on a club team while going to college in Anchorage, Alaska. An academic advisor/executive coach for the Competency Based Education (CBE) pilot program, Bourdon keeps the Ducks in mind by decorating his cubicle on the third floor of the Irvine campus with playoff towels and a poster of Corey Perry. On game days, he wears a Duck T-shirt underneath business attire.
It must have been good luck earlier this week. Bourdon’s Ducks finished off their first-round opponents, the Winnipeg Jets, and will start the next round of playoffs in a few days.
A confirmed Ducks fan since 2002-03 when they lost to the New Jersey Devils in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, Bourdon was lucky enough to be at the 2005-06 game when the Ducks won the Stanley Cup. He’s hoping his favorite players, Ryan Getzlaf and Nate Thompson, will be able to propel them to another chance to hoist the Cup. And if pressed, he’ll say he’s hoping their opponent will be the New York Islanders.
