Walnut Creek faculty member Dr. John Freed wrote a play that is being performed by the Dramatists Guild in San Francisco on March 2 at 7 p.m. and the Brandman community is invited to the free event at the Tides Theatre (533 Sutter Street, San Franciso). “The Merchant of Pittsburgh: A Comedy” is set in an Equity-based, regional theater in the late ’80s. A fed-up Jewish board member takes over as acting artistic director in order to stage a Shylock-friendly production of “The Merchant of Venice” while being forced to confront his own set of racial and ethnic prejudices. For more, see this recent feature story about Dr. Freed.
